PART-TIME/STUDENT JOB AND BENEFITS

Before you start to receive unemployment insurance benefits you need to consider whether you want to continue on at your student job or if you end that along with your studies.

When you complete your studies and start on unemployment insurance benefits you have two options regarding your student job. You can either continue and receive supplementary benefits or you can quit your student job before receiving unemployment insurance benefits.

STUDENT JOB AND SUPPLEMENTARY BENEFITS

It can be a comfort to maintain one’s connection to the labour market when you receive unemployment insurance benefits.

You can work part-time along side your unemployment insurance funds as long as you are not tied to the job and can leave with a day’s notice. If you want to stay at your student job you will need to receive supplementary benefits.

QUIT YOUR STUDENT JOB IN DUE TIME

If you do not want to continue with your student job after graduation, you need to have quit and left your position no later than the day of your last exam. Then you will be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits the day after your graduation provided that you have been a member of the unemployment insurance fund for a year and completed the guide Unemployed after Graduation.

If you wait to quit your job while you qualify for unemployment insurance benefits, you will be quarantined for three weeks without receiving benefits. So, remember to quit your student job in due time.

If you have forgotten to quit your student job before you receive unemployment insurance benefits, you may consider applying for supplementary benefits. However, remember that if you quit your job later on you will be quarantined. If your employer dismisses you, you will avoid quarantine.
